Kia Motors Corporation, commonly known as Kia, is a South Korean multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It is South Korea’s second largest automobile manufacturer, after its parent company Hyundai Motor Company. Kia was founded on 9 June 1944, as Kyungsung Precision Industry; this was changed to Kia Industries in 1951 and to its current name in 1957. Kia Motors Corporation, best known as Kia, is a South Korean automobile manufacturer headquartered in Seoul. Its founder, Ju Sung-whan, started building motorcycles after World War II and automobiles in 1944 under the name of the Kia Motors Manufacturing Company. In 1952, he changed the name to Kia Industry. In 1954, Kia Industry was merged with five other companies to form SamYang Industrial Company.
